You need to check this out to get a bit more familiar with gitlab. But anyway, I think that both tools are really handy and they both have some pros and cons, I'd never say that one is better than the other.

Software development companies in USA usually use the version control system of GitLab, because it is the most universal and if you need to attract specialists on outsourcing, then with a 90% probability they will be able to use gitlab.
