The new update file will probably be called D2011.07.##.0000.torrent
After the udpate begins, you want to open FFXIV, and allow it to START UPDATING. If the speed is ok, then run with it. If not, then do the following:
1. Shutdown FFXIV update. 2. open up to the 48eca647 >> metainfo folder 3. COPY the latest .torrent file to a DIFFERENT LOCATION, this is extremely important!!! (you dont want your torrent program downloading the file INTO that folder. if you do, and when you open ffxiv again to update the game, it can stall and hang at 99% for days)
Edit: you'll require a torrent program to download the file, i suggest utorrent, it's easy to use.
4. after utorrent has finished downloading the update, copy the saved update information (it will be a new file, not the .torrent one), and copy it into the PATCH subfolder in the 48eca647 folder.
5. Optional: after COPYING the downloaded file into the patch folder, leave your torrent program running, so that you share what you have, and others can get it too!
6. Run the game, and let it update.
NOTE: if the torrent seems to take forever using a torrent download program, it may be that noone has the full file yet. ie, shortly after SE says all servers are back up and running.
You CAN run the regular update AND utorrent as well, so there's no drama there. Just use whichever comes in first. ha!
edit 2: the file you want is D2011.07.20.0000.torrent (just checked update) - my update said 6 hours! close ffxiv, go to the folder it's in. move it. THEN use a torrent program to download it. rest of instructions above.
edit 3: the full file is available using torrent programs now. still have to wait for SE to finish doing their server stuff tho. but after that, see you in game!
